Emotional Growth
Are You or Your Teen Struggling With Anxiety or Emotional Difficulties?
We all go through times when we feel worried, confused, overwhelmed, angry, or sad. Teenage years can be exciting, but they can also bring pressure from many directions including school, friendships, social media, family expectations, and trying to understand where you fit in.
You may be experiencing:
-
Persistent anxiety, excessive worry, or panic attacks.
-
Feeling low, emotionally exhausted, or overwhelmed.
-
Stress related to school, exams, work, family, or relationships.
-
Low self-esteem or a lack of confidence.
-
Social anxiety or fear of being judged.
-
Difficulty making or maintaining friendships.
-
Bullying, peer pressure, or feeling left out.
-
Struggles with identity, self-image, or self-worth.
-
Negative or self-critical thoughts that are hard to switch off.
-
Feeling angry, irritable, or overwhelmed by emotions.
-
Difficulty coping with change, separation, divorce, loss, or grief.
-
Problems sleeping, concentrating, or relaxing.
-
Feeling disconnected from yourself or others.
-
Withdrawing from family, friends, or everyday activities.
-
Feeling stuck in unhelpful thoughts, behaviours, or patterns.
You may find it difficult to talk openly with parents, teachers, friends, or those around you. You may worry about being misunderstood, judged, or becoming a burden to others. I, at Carlyn Miller Counselling, offer a safe, confidential, and supportive space where you can talk openly, feel heard without judgement, and begin to better understand what you are going through.

Build healthier habits and coping strategies for everyday life.
I understand that every person’s experience is different. Counselling is tailored to your individual needs, personality, and pace. My aim is not to “fix” you, but to help you better understand yourself, feel more empowered, and develop tools that support your wellbeing now and in the future.
My Person-Centred Approach with CBT Strategies
My approach to counselling is primarily Person-Centred, which means I believe you are the expert in your own life and have the capacity for growth and change when given the right support and environment. I aim to provide a warm, accepting, empathic, and non-judgemental space where you feel safe to express yourself openly. Building trust and a strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of the work we do together. I will work alongside you at your own pace, helping you explore your thoughts and experiences in a way that feels safe and meaningful.
Alongside this person-centred foundation, I may also integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) strategies where appropriate. CBT techniques can help you to:
-
Understand how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected.
-
Recognise and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns.
-
Develop practical coping skills for anxiety and stress.
-
Learn techniques to manage worry and overthinking.
-
Build confidence in social situations.
-
Improve emotional regulation and resilience.
-
Set realistic goals and develop healthier habits and behaviours.
By combining empathy, understanding, and evidence-based CBT strategies, I aim to offer both emotional support and practical tools to help you move forward with greater confidence and self-awareness.
